Product Description:
Take your garden to the next level with leafcutter bees, a super and safe pollinator! Leafcutters are solitary, summer bees. They are not aggressive and they do not interact with other bees. Just open the flap on the box and place it in your bee house. Once the bee cocoons are placed outside in the spring or summer, they take about 35 to 45 days to emerge from their cocoons. After they emerge, they generally live about five to six weeks and the females lay eggs during that period, which they wrap in leaf material. In quantities used in yards and gardens - 150 to 250 bees - they don't noticeably damage foliage. These super pollinators need daytime high temperatures to reach near 80 degrees to be able to get out and get to work - higher is better. Make sure they are located in a sunny area of your yard or garden. They do not need a water source since they extract sufficient moisture from the leaves they use in the nest to live. Leafcutters only forage about three hundred yards from their nesting block, unless there isn't sufficient bloom in the area, in which case they will leave the area to find bloom and have difficulty returning.
- They are extremely healthy with a tested average live count of over 4,000 per pound. Safe for children and pets. All bee cocoons are shipped in the diapause state - dormant - and therefore, easy to handle.
